Prof. Vladimir Minin, a recent UCLA Biomathematics PhD graduate, has been awarded the 2007 Leonard J. Savage Award for Applied Methodology. The International Society for Bayesian Analysis bestows the Savage Award annually to the most outstanding doctoral dissertation in Bayesian econometrics and statistics. The award is the most prestigious international recognition available to young researchers in the field. Minin received the award last week in a special session at the 9th International Society for Bayesian Analysis World Meeting, held on Hamilton Island, Australia. Minin’s PhD dissertation was entitled “Exploring evolutionary heterogeneity with change-point models, Gaussian Markov random fields and Markov chain induced counting processes” and his dissertation committee included Janet Sinsheimer, Christina Kitchen, Kenneth Lange, Elliot Landaw and Marc Suchard (chair).
